Oman-Polish parliamentary relations to be strengthened

MUSCAT: State Council Vice-Chairman Dr Shaikh al Khattab bin Ghalib al Hinai on Tuesday received the delegation of the Polish side of the parliamentary friendship committee between the State Council of Oman and the Polish Senate, headed by Senator Michal Sewerynski.


The three-day visit to the Sultanate by the Polish delegation is in response to an invitation extended by the State, to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries in various fields and the development of inter-parliamentary relations.


Dr Al Hinai during the meeting said that the visit is a testament to the Oman government’s interest in developing parliamentary cooperation with the Poland Senate, especially in the fields of governance, trade, education and economic spheres.


He underscored the Omani-Polish relations in the field of higher education, referring to the Omani students pursuing studies in Poland on scholarships in many disciplines. This, he said, enables them to contribute effectively towards the national development goals. He added that the Sultanate looks forward to further cooperation between the two countries, and strengthening of bonds of friendship and praised


the role played by the relevant friendship committees and wished them success.


Michal Sewerynski commented on the special relations between the two countries and the importance of expanding and promoting them and praised the wise foreign policy pursued by the Sultanate based on the pragmatic vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.


He commended the outstanding efforts of the Sultanate and its contributions to the protection of regional stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region for world peace and support, the great development witnessed by the Sultanate at all levels, and stressed the pioneering role played by the Sultanate in the establishment of tolerance, respect and values of coexistence.


MoU signed: Salem bin Ismail al Suwaid, Head of the Omani side of the Oman-Polish Friendship Committee, and members of the committee attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Oman-Polish Friendship Committee.


Al Suwaid explained the keenness of the committee and its goal of activating fruitful relations between the two countries and strengthening the links between them. He highlighted the recommendations of the report on the level of cooperation between the Sultanate and Poland in all fields, and stressed on the importance of MoU to support all efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.


Michal Sewerynski thanked the Omani side of the committee for the efforts made to strengthen relations between the two countries, and expressed satisfaction with the process of economic and trade relations between Poland and its growth steady. Delegation meets Under-Secretary of Heritage and Culture Ministry: The Polish delegation met Shaikh Hamad bin Hilal al Maamari, Under-Secretary of Heritage and Culture Ministry for Cultural Affairs on Tuesday.


The talks focused on the review of the prospects of cultural cooperation between the Sultanate and Poland and ways of enhancing them. In addition, they discussed the necessity of signing a MoU in the cultural field, and strengthening cooperation in the field of prospecting, qualification and training of national cadres in the field of archeology and preservation of archaeological assets, by taking advantage of the Polish experience in this field. The exchange of traditional orchestras and folk arts festivals and the establishment of cultural weeks between the two countries was also discussed.


Visit to National Museum: The Polish delegation visited the Omani National Museum in order to view and experience its highlights.


Museum officials accompanied the delegation during the museum tour, which displayed many aspects of life in Oman spanning over several varied historical phases.
