MUSCAT: As part of its commitment to support the social development of people in the Sultanate, Oman Oil Marketing Company recently celebrated the conclusion of its landmark handicraft social media competition. Launched in partnership with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) and Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI), the competition was designed to facilitate the growth of small businesses and challenge traditional artisans to use Instagram to promote their products. Contestants were graded by a team of judges on their communications skills, ability to engage customers, and their creative use of Instagram to connect with customers. At the end of the competition, 60 participants were selected to take part in a series of special workshops to facilitate the growth of their digital marketing skills.

Jaber al Busaidi, Corporate Affairs Manager at Oman Oil Marketing Company, said, “This competition reflects our longstanding commitment to care beyond the pump and support every segment of Omani society any way we can. Our handicraft contest offered the Sultanate’s burgeoning SME sector the opportunity to reach out to a new world of customers through Instagram and social media. Everyone who participated was a winner for taking the initiative and gaining a host of new skills and experiences in the process.”

Oman Oil Marketing Company’s support for talented youth falls in line with its strategy of caring beyond the pump. Throughout the years, it has demonstrated that commitment through a number of initiatives and activities that have empowered the next generation to achieve their full potential and earned the brand a place in the hearts and minds of people across the length and breadth of the Sultanate. Initiatives launched by the company include the Ata’a and Farah campaigns, the 2015 edition of the King’s Tournament in Muscat, establishing a dedicated Oman Oil Football School, and the Oman Oil Football Tournament for Muscat Schools, which was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
