Oman Oil allocates RO 44,000 to empower sports champions

Muscat: Oman Oil Marketing Company in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports Affairs, unveiled the second edition of its athletic development initiative ‘Waqoodona’. The programme is aimed and designed to support 44 professional sports clubs across the Sultanate by providing OMR 44,000 in fuel cards.


Faisal Al Shanfari, General Manager of Shared Services at Oman Oil Marketing Company, said, “The second edition of Waqoodona was inspired by our belief in sports as a driver of communal growth and youth development. With the full support of the Ministry of Sports Affairs, we are proud to play a role in helping these professional clubs reach their full potential. Through this initiative, we are aiming to create a platform that elevates national sports programmes and eases the burden of transportation costs experienced by clubs as well as players.”


He added, “Our core values of giving back to the communities we serve continues to inspire our dedication to Corporate Social Responsibility. As in the past, we remain committed to working with public sector entities and enhancing the social role of professional sports clubs in Oman.”


Fahad Abdullah Al Raisi, General Manager of Sports Development at the Ministry of Sports Affairs, said, “The success of Waqoodona highlights the impressive growth of corporate citizenship in the Sultanate, which now extends to every aspect of social and economic support. Waqoodona is a strong example of how close collaboration between public and private sector entities can be a highly effective, sustainable method of achieving human development. Our partnership will take those ties further and serve as inspiration to other companies looking for an opportunity to give back to Oman.”


The second annual Waqodoona initiative is part and parcel of Oman Oil Marketing Company’s dedication to driving social development through athletic and humanitarian focused initiatives. Its longlist of initiatives includes events such as the omanoil Football Tournament as well as the annual Ata’a campaign held every Ramadan.
