PSA Marine Qalhat SAOC, Oman LNG’s sole contractor of tug boats, has achieved 100 per cent Omanisation of its marine crew. This milestone has been realised as a result of deliberate efforts taken by the PSA Marine Qalhat management to train and develop the local workforce in Oman, and in line with Oman LNG’s deliberate efforts in raising Omanisation rates in contractors and suppliers working for Oman LNG.

In January 2015, PSA Marine Qalhat commenced its terminal towage operations at the Oman LNG plant, in Sur, with a fleet of four modern and sophisticated ASD tugs and about half of its marine crew comprised of Omanis. With a comprehensive upgrading and up-skilling programme to train the Omanis as well as partnership and support from Oman LNG, PSA Marine Qalhat attained 100 per cent Omanisation for its team of marine crew within three years of commencing operations. Omanisation is an initiative initiated by the government of Oman to help nationalise the workforce.

Ahmed al Wardi, Oman LNG Senior Operation Manager, commented, “We are delighted with this achievement, which came due to concerted efforts between PSA Marine Qalhat and Oman LNG. We are very proud of our Omani tug boat officers and crew for their dedication and enthusiasm towards exemplary operations every day safely. Omanisation is one of our top targets in Oman LNG and PSA Marine Qalhat, and this milestone is testament to that”.

Capt Gunalan Letchumanan, General Manager of PSA Marine Qalhat, said, “I am thankful to have alongside me a team of committed and motivated staff. Together with the partnership and support from Oman LNG, PSA Marine Qalhat accomplishes 100 per cent Omanisation of our marine crew.”.
