MUSCAT, Jan 20 - An Omani-Indian collaboration movie will premiere at Vox Cinema at Muscat Grand Mall on February 5. Zayana, scripted by Dr Khalid bin Abdul Rahim al Zadjali, is being screened as part of the ongoing Muscat Festival.

“Zayana is the story of a young Omani student who travels to Kerala for higher studies and starts working in a call centre to meet her expenses. It’s all about herself, her husband who accompanies her and their experiences that reflect on women’s empowerment,” Dr Khalid al Zadjali said. Co-produced by Al Masa Company and Heera Films, it is scripted by Dr Khalid with Fatima al Salmiya and Faisal al Zadjali. A number of Omani and Indian actors play different characters. Talib al Balushi, Noora al Farsi, Ali al Amiri, M R Gopakumar and Riju Ram are playing the key roles.
The characters speak both Arabic and Malayalam in the film. According to Dr Khalid, this is the first time that a major portion of an Omani movie has been shot outside the country.
“We don’t have a sound cinema culture here. I’m sure this film will give us more support and space in the Sultanate’s film culture,” he said, adding the loss of Salim Bahwan, a talented actor, a few years ago was “a great loss.’’
“Omani film has a bright future but we need to change our approach towards cinema and encourage more film productions here,” said Dr Khalid. “More business people, not just artistes, should come forward and try to make movies,” he said.
