Shaping Oman’s athletic champions, Jebel Sifah welcomed over 4,000 thrill-seekers from 20 countries around the world to Oman’s second annual XDubai Spartan Race. With thousands of athletes meeting at the starting line to take on the world’s most challenging obstacle course, this year’s event pushed the Spartan Oman Team including Marwa al Wadhahi, Muneer al Azri, Fahad al Abri, and the region’s best sportsmen and women to compete with international Spartans from European countries such as France, Norway, Russia and Serbia, as well as the USA.

The race tested each contestant’s strength and endurance over Spartan obstacles masterfully designed to challenge even the bravest competitors. Hallvard Borsheim of Norway and Myriam Guillot Boisset of France conquered the 5+ kilometre Spartan Sprint as its champions, with Myriam joining Russian Sergey Perelygin in taking first place in the gruelling, 12+ kilometre Spartan Super. The second and third places of the Spartan Sprint were acclaimed by Russian Sergey Perelygin and French Jacky Boisset on the men’s team, and Serbian Ivana Kolaric and British Hayley Loomes on the ladies’ team. Second and third runner ups for the Spartan Super were Hallvard and Saudi Arabian Fahad Alsahli for the men’s team, and Ivana and French Angelique Chetaneau for the women’s team respectively.

This year’s XDubai Spartan Race featured multiple competitive events and categories including the Elite and Open categories for both the Spartan Super and Sprint contests. Little Spartans were not left out either, with a special Spartan Kids category catering to children aged between 4-14 years old. Additionally, in commemoration of the recent National Day celebrations, the first Dishdasha challenge brought to Spartan the first participant undertaking the obstacle course in his traditional Dishdasha. Throughout the day-long event, spectators were treated to a host of family-friendly entertainment including live music.

Hussain al Zadjali, Sales Operations Director at Muriya said, “We take pride in hosting the successful XDubai Spartan race in Jebel Sifah and cementing Oman’s role as one of the region’s leading destinations for enriching, one-of-a-kind sports activities. The pristine natural environment surrounding Jebel Sifah, the enthusiasm of the crowd, and the passion of our contestants all contributed to making this year’s event a milestone success. I would like to congratulate our participants and we look forward to welcoming a bigger and more exciting Spartan race in 2018.”

Jebel Sifah has grown to become a popular attraction amongst local, regional and international visitors. A burgeoning community that boasts a wide variety of freehold properties, restaurants, shops, first-class entertainment facilities and the Sifawy Boutique Hotel. Jebel Sifah is also home to a state-of-the-art marina and the newly launched 9-hole Harradine Golf Course managed by experts Troon International.
