Oman to host AHF Congress next month

By Haridev Pushparaj — MUSCAT: Feb. 12 – Oman Hockey Association (OHA) Chairman Captain Talib al Wahaibi announced Oman will host the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Congress for the first time on March 30th this year.
The OHA chairman made the statement at a press meet held to announce the second edition of the Starcare Gulf Hockey Fiesta organised by United Thalassery Sports Club (UTSC).
The AHF Congress will have His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince Abdullah Ahmad Shah of Malaysia along with delegates from 31 countries attending the event and it will be a matter of immense prestige for the Sultanate to be hosting the event.
“I am proud to announce that Oman will host the AHF Congress on March 30th in Muscat,’’ the OHA chairman stated.
International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Narinder Batra, who will be on a private visit to Muscat on March 2nd, will be present at the AHF Congress in his official capacity.
When asked whether any modalities for a big announcement will be worked out between OHA and the FIH President during his private visit, Al Wahaibi replied in the negative.
“See, Mr Batra will be here on a private visit. So, we will not bother him with any official talks. He will come and see Oman and enjoy his stay here. When he visits again during the AHF Congress, we will then have talks,’’ he added.
Al Wahaibi also stated that Oman will host the Asian Games qualifying matches in Muscat in January-February 2018.
“It will be a big opportunity for Oman to compete with four countries Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka,’’ the OHA chairman revealed.
