The 8th Oman Health Exhibition and Conference, which will begin on September 24, will showcase opportunities in Oman’s health/ healthcare market, thanks to government’s billion-dollar investment in the industry.

The conference is being organised by Omanexpo in association with Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), the Ministry of Health and Oman Medical Association.

The three-day expo, to be held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, will see a range of healthcare service providers from across the world descending on Muscat with the latest technology with minimally invasive detection procedures and rehabilitation services.

“We are expecting over 150 companies from 18 countries, including India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and the US, to showcase the latest medical products and equipment, personal care products, diagnostic and laboratory equipment, pharmaceutical products, physiotherapy and orthopedic technology,” Ahmed Sayed, exhibition director, Oman Health Exhibition and Conference, told the Observer.

The Medical Park Group of rehabilitation hospitals in Germany, taking part for the first time, will share its latest rehabilitation procedures on site.

“Our main goal is to make patients walk significantly better again through physiotherapeutic measures and targeted pain therapy,” said Prof Horstmann, Head of Orthopedics at Medical Park Bad Wiessee, Bavaria.

“The success of our treatment consists of several indicators: reduction in pain, improvement in mobility, avoidance of complications and increase in the quality of life.”

A large number of patients have been travelling to Kerala from the GCC for a wide range of needs, including orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, urology and gynecology.

A total of 94,000 visas were processed last year, most of which for medical procedures.

Kerala is gaining global reputation for healthcare.

This year’s edition will see participation from Iran, Taiwan and India. Iran will bring a consortium of top manufacturers of medical devices and exporters. Taiwan pavilion will be represented by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), which will bring in innovative medical and surgical products and technologies, including non-invasive detection methods and minimally invasive surgical applications.

India pavilion is represented by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Medical students in Oman are eagerly awaiting the opening of the expo. “I’m excited to be taking part in the expo which, I believe, will offer some new knowledge,” said Amal, a medical student.

“There will be discussions on many topics covering surgery, emergency and trauma, women and child health, physical rehabilitation and therapy, and healthcare management. All these will be useful for future medical specialists of Oman,” she added.
