Muscat, april 29 - Oman are clubbed with Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and China in group A at the eighth Asian Men’s Junior (Under-16) Handball Championship to be held in Amman in September this year. The draw of the Asian Under-16 Handball Championship was held in Amman on Saturday under the auspices of Dr Tayseer al Mansi and in the presence of Bader al Dhiab, vice chairman of Asian Handball Association, and top officials of Asian associations and members of the organising committee. The 16 participating teams were divided into four groups. Jordan will join Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and Palestine in Group B. South Korea, Iraq, India and Syria are placed in group C.
Meanwhile, Japan, Qatar, UAE and Iran are clubbed in Group D. In the last edition of the championship in 2016, Bahrain were the defending champions. Japan finished as the runner up while South Korea ended up with the third place. As per the Asian Handball Federation (AHF) rules, the host nation has the option of choosing the group it wants to be in. Jordan decided to be a part of Group B along with Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei and Palestine. The top two teams from each group, will qualify for the semifinals.
