Kuwait, DEC 24 - Oman national team manager Pim Verbeek will eye attacking against Kuwait in the second round of the Arabian Gulf Cup Group match. He is expected to start with Abdulaziz al Muqbali and Khalid al Hajri in front in order to score. “We have to attack when we can, and we have to defend when we have to.” Verbeek told Oman Daily Observer after the last training session held on Sunday at Al Salmya stadium. The Red Warriors were not lucky against UAE in the first round, losing 1-0, and now they have to win against Kuwait to keep their hopes to qualify to semifinals.

It kicks off at Jaber International Stadium at 20:00, and its expected to be fully packed by Kuwaiti crowd.

The Dutchman Pim Verbeek is expected to start with two strikers, using the 4-4-2 system that he used to do with one of the 2019 AFC qualifiers.

He is expected to make one change in the midfield up, with the striker Abdulaziz al Muqbali in for Harib al Sadi.

Khalid al Hajri will remain his place in the attack but will be accompanied with his AlSuwaiq mate Abdulaziz.

Mohsen Jawhar who had three tactical functions against UAE, will play next to Ahmed Kanu in the centre midfield while Jamil al Yahmidy as right winger and Raed Ibrahim as left winger.

The defence line will remain the same with the four players from right: Saad Suhai, Fahmi Durbeen, Mohammed AlMusalami, and Ali Al Busaidi.

The former National team manager Ahmed Hadid, who is player affairs manager for Oman Football Association, said: “We are still working to improve the mental and the physical aspects and the players showed very high indicators of enthusiasm for our game against Kuwait. We are ready to end this game for our side,’’ he added.

Meanwhile, Oman and Kuwait are set in the third and fourth places of Group A, which includes UAE and KSA who have three points each.
