MUSCAT: An official delegation from the Sultanate, led by Dr Ahmed bin Mahmoud al Saeedi, Minister of Health, will take part in the two-day Second Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety in Bonn in the Federal Republic of Germany. The first day included five workshops that will cover a number of issues on patient safety like infection control in health institutions and drug use safety. The Sultanate will take part in the panel discussion on patient safety and will present its experience in implementation of the WHO initiatives for the Patient Safety Friendly Hospitals.

The Ministry has implemented the initiative last year in 11 hospitals including 8 public and 3 private hospitals. A team of experts from WHO will visit the Sultanate to evaluate 2 public and 2 private hospitals. During the first meeting, the Sultanate submitted a proposal to dedicate a World Patient Safety Day to cast more light on the developments in patient safety. The proposal, which was widely accepted and approved by participant, will be activated in the coming period. — ONA
