He added that the main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ while sub-themes are opportunity, mobility and sustainability. The Sultanate’s pavilion at the Expo will be titled ‘Oman — Opportunities over Time.’ The pavilion will showcase achievements during the glorious reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, in addition to highlighting the future achievements and aspirations of the Sultanate in those subjects and areas.
Hassan bin Mohammed bin Ali al Lawati, Adviser to the Minister of Heritage and Culture for Heritage Affairs, Deputy Commissioner- General of the Sultanate Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, said that Omani participation in this event will be distinct and different.
The architectural design of the pavilion is inspired from the frankincense tree and its historical association with Oman. The shape of the building represents and embodies the frankincense tree. The design is based on a central trunk where the display begins.
From this central trunk, spaces intersect at different levels with the display areas. The outer façade of the pavilion resembles branches of the frankincense tree. Frankincense tree was a bridge of communication and trade between the civilisations of the ancient world more than 5,000 years ago.
Caravans for frankincense travelled on different routes to different parts of the world, which corresponds to the main theme of Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as its sub-themes: opportunity, mobility and sustainability.
