Oman and Cyprus strengthen bilateral cooperation

MUSCAT: Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court, received in his Office on Sunday Demetris Syllouris, President of the Cyrpus House of Representatives, and his delegation.


During the meeting bilateral relations between the Sultanate and the Cyprus were reviewed.


Separately, Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, received Demetris Syllouris and his delegation at the Council premises.


During the meeting, Dr Al Mantheri highlighted the importance of the visit. He added it serves to strengthen cooperation frameworks and open new avenues between the Sultanate of Oman and Cyprus.


Further, on, he underlined the importance of strengthening relations in various fields between the two countries especially in the economic and educational fields.


Speaking about the ongoing procedures of the new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries, the State Council Chairman said that it would bolster relations.

Demetris Syllouris, expressed happiness regarding the visit the Sultanate of Oman, and added that they looked forward to further progress, prosperity and development in relationships and praised the Omani parliamentary experience, development and uniqueness.


He noted that Cyprus is concerned about expanding its relations with the Sultanate of Oman in bilateral and multilateral formats. In his opinion, a great potential exists for the activation of cooperation in investment and education field and stressed on the need to have a program of student exchange between the two countries.


Majlis Ash’shura Chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali also received Demetris Syllouris and his delegation.


The meeting discussed ways to develop relations between Majlis Ash’shura and the House of Representatives of Cyprus in a way that serves the common interests of the two countries, in addition to the convergence of views on the various issues on the work of the international and regional parliamentary unions to achieve the interests of the peoples of the two friendly countries. Syllouris said the increasing cooperation between the two friendly countries through parliamentary councils, intensifying visits and exchanging experiences will help develop the parliamentary process between the two sides. — ONA
