MUSCAT, MAY 9 -

The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) in Wilayat Duqm in Al Wusta Governorate is marching ahead with all its growth plans and has by now ranked among the brightest names in the world of investment and a global economic, oil and gas industry, petrochemical plant, dry dock, logistics, tourism and educational station, according to Dr Salim bin Saleem al

Junaibi, Chairman, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry — Al Wusta.

With this in mind, OCCI has developed a number of programmes to promote and develop concepts that are in line with Duqm’s global economic standing by communicating with the businessmen in the governorate and conducting conferences and seminars and informing them of the rapid development in Duqm, as well as paying intensive visits to a number of countries in the world to learn about business and industrial activities, in order to open up prospects for industrial and economic development, the Chairman said on the sidelines of the 3rd Duqm Society and Economy Forum 2017 held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Asaad bin Tareq al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and as the Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan.

“This 3rd Duqm Society and Economy Forum is highly important and significant under the umbrella of the modern Omani Renaissance which continues to go further with determination, opening up, thereby, greater horizons towards building the nation and achieving prosperity for mankind with a vision and great aspiration for development”, Dr Al Junaibi, who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee said.

He added that Duqm has, over the past few years, grown to be the centre for attracting investors’ capital and a vital commercial gate for exports and imports from the world’s continents, supporting national laws and regulations.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former prime minister of Malaysia opined that the special and industrial economic zones and free zones contribute to the revival of economic movement and the opening of export markets to manufacturing industries.

“Special and industrial economic zones and free zones are considered as effective tool to the achievement of economic objectives of transferring knowledge and technology, diversifying the sources of income and developing the Omani ports and airports to become the commercial and industrial centres of international tourism and enhancing global confidence in the Sultanate’s potential and policies”, he added saying that the Sultanate is poised to benefit from its geographical location in the establishment of economic zones and free zones for various industries; as an open gateway to attract investments and accommodate domestic and foreign capital and gain various advantages, incentives and facilities it offers for projects implemented here.

Organised by 3 Dimensions on behalf of the OCCI, the event saw various ministerial representatives, businessmen and other prominent people attending the event. Shaikh Salem al Ghazali, Chairman, Golden Group; Shaikh Salem al Siyabi, Chairman, Al Siyabi Group; Eng Khamis al Kaoumi, Chairman, Al Madina Real Estate; Dr Abdul Rahiman al Zamil, CEO, Al Zamil Industrial Investment Group; and Shaikh Mahmood al Jarwani, Chairman, Al Jarwani Group were some of the key attendees who took part in the panel discussion moderated by Ahmed Said Khashob.
