Oman beat Malaysia in Asia Cup Qualifiers

Kuala Lumpur: Oman eked out a hard-fought two wicket victory over Malaysia in their second match of the Asia Cup Qualifiers. Malaysia batted first and posted a lowly 198/8 in their stipulated 50 overs. Virandeep Singh topscored with 74 while Bilal Khan (3/28) and Fayyaz Butt (3/43) did the trick for Oman in the bowling department.


Chasing 199 for victory, Oman struggled along the way but a timely, unbeaten 44 from Ajay Lalcheta and VS Wategaonkar’s 39 helped the Sultanate’s team get home. Oman had beaten Nepal in their first match.


Brief scores: Malaysia: 198/8 in 50 overs (Virandeep Singh 74, Syed Aziz 27; Bilal Khan 3-28, Fayyaz Butt 3-43) lt to Oman: 199/8 in 49.2 overs (Ajay Lalcheta 44 n.o., VS Wategaonkar 39; Abdul Rashid 4-30, Muhammad Anwar 3-36).
