Oman beach volleyball ‘A’ team reaches quarterfinals

The Oman beach volleyball team (A), led from the front by Mazin al Hasmi and Nouh al Jalbobi, secured their place in the quarterfinals beating Palestine 2-0 at the Asian Games.


Oman claimed the first set 21-11 and wrapped up the second 21-17.


Meanwhile, the Oman team (B) including Ahmed al Hosni and Haitham al Suraiqi suffered a loss from China 2/1 on Friday. The first set was taken by Oman team 21-18.


But China registered a strong comeback in second half and to take the set 21/18. The last and third set finished for China 21-15. With this loss, Oman team B exited from the competition.


The Oman beach volleyball team (A) will take on the hosts Indonesia on Saturday at 10:00 (Oman timing).


The national sprinters Barakat al Harthy and Fatik bait Qaswar, will commence the athletics team’s participation at the Asian Games as they will compete in the 100 metres on Saturday.


Oman athletics delegation is relying on the star Barkat al Harthy to get the first medal for the Sultanate in this edition of Asian Games. Al Harthy is one of the experienced Omani sprinters who has participated in many editions of world chmpionships at 2009, 2013 and 2015 and also he took part at the indoor world championship for athletics in 2010 and 2014. Al Harthy clinched the bronze medal at the Asian Games in 2010 in China and he achieved a good record in last edition of West Asian as he registered 9.97 sec for 100-metre race.


The new sprinter who has joined to the national team, Fatik bait Qaswar, is keen to register a good start for the Sultanate in the race competitions. He is one of the graduated sprinters from Royal Sultan Force athletics team.


Also, the athletics team will participate at the 200 metres and the relay 4×100 metres.


In the 200 metres that will take place on Tuesday, Mohammed al Saadi and Ammar al Saifi will also take to the track for the Sultanate team. Oman’s 4×100 metre team will be represented by Barakat, Al Saadi, Rashid al Asmi, Obaid al Qarni and Fatik.
