MUSCAT: The Muscat governorate is a favoured destination for those who want to enjoy swimming, diving, bird and dolphin-watching, thanks to its calm seas and beautiful beaches. It also offers ideal locations for camping and recreational activities.

Come winter and operators organise several trips on Omani waters. The number of trips surge in winters. These are accompanied by recreational activities such as boating, surface swimming, volleyball, football and basketball. Visitors can watch dolphins on such trips, which may include swimming, diving or other water sports, before docking at Bandar Al Khairan beach to take part in different activities in an Arabic setting.

Dolphin-watching is a well-known leisure activity in Muscat. There are some 20 species of dolphins and whales in Oman. Among dolphins, the most common are ‘Dollar Sandbar’.

The Sultanate is a famous diving destination in the region because of its diversity in marine life. It has small islands, bays and caves as well as unique coral reefs.

The well-known diving areas around Muscat are: Al Khairan, Al Fahl Island, Daymaniyat Island, Khaleej Al Maqbarah in Old Muscat and Al Jissah beach. Each of these sites has at least 11 different diving spots.

Tourists can also enjoy beautiful sights along the coast, including the Jalali and Mirani forts and the Al Alam Palace.
