MUSCAT: The Olympic Solidarity Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) on Wednesday held its second meeting in 2017 at the OOC premises under the chairmanship of Shaikh Badr bin Ali al Rawas, OOC board member and Chairman of Olympic Solidarity Committee.

The meeting discussed priority topics for the upcoming stage, foremost of which was the Omani Olympic Academy project. The participants in the meeting reviewed the successful experiences of Olympic academies.

The meeting familiarised itself with the most important results of the visit to the Qatar Olympic Academy made on October 26 by a delegation, consisting of Fareed bin Khamis al Zadjali, Ali bin Salim al Busafi and Hisham bin Salim al Adwani assigned to prepare a general perspective of the academy project. During that visit, the Omani delegation familiarised themselves with the statutes of the academy and its various facilities and discussed the aspects of mutual cooperation. They also familiarised themselves with several partnership agreements with a number of local and international organisations intended to activate effective programmes within the academy.

As for the Olympic Solidarity’s 2018 Programme, the committee has put in place a timetable for courses and programmes scheduled to be held next year such as advanced coaches qualifying courses for sports associations and committees subsidised by the Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in addition to specialised courses in IT, accounting and human resources. The meeting also discussed the Olympic Solidarity’s programmes that are available throughout the year such as the Master Degree programmes of study, international training courses, subsidies provided to supporting committees and athletes’ scholarships.
