At the end of each year, car showrooms in Muscat usually witness a rush of new car sales. Dealers look to shed current inventory to make room for the next year’s models. However, the vintage automobiles have slightly emerged in the Sultanate as a highly profitable advantage.

During the celebration of the Olympic Day which was held in Al Sahwa Park (Muscat), the old classic cars show was the first attraction spot. The majority of audiences were heading to the open show space attempting to obtain any opportunity to get in to see for themselves several of unique automobiles with their rather extraordinary features. It further proved that dealing with these kinds of cars has become a ‘hot market indeed’.

Oman Classic Cars is a skilled team. Its 66 members are very interested in buying old and classic cars which represent different periods of time. The team was established in 2016 and it aims to spread the culture of acquiring cars with classic old models.

Abdulsatar al Maymani, one of the team leaders, said that, “this hobby is now well recognized around the world. In many countries there are specific characteristic car museums which tell the accurate and detailed historical stories on the cars industry.

The Omani team has already participated in many volunteer and charitable activities around the region. “The hobby is very important to learn more about the beginning of the automotive industry and how to manufacture engines in the different eras, which contributes to the development of industries between old and modern models”, he added.

During last two years, the Omani team has succeeded in participating in many events around the region. For instance; they have been to Kuwait, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and State of Qatar. The team members’ vehicles have advanced positions. The winner of the awards was Elias al Zadjali, who won first place in Qatar Furthermore, the team members recently participated in the charity campaign which was organised by the Omani Charity Authority, where the team presented its interesting and exciting shows.

In this event the team shows many old models such as; Mercedes-Benz 1929, Bugatti 1929 and Pontiac Tranzam 1986.

These cars are characterized by high prices because of their scarcity and not easy to obtain them and the greater the chronological age the greater the value. The old classic cars are classified as:

Antique cars: manufactured between 1900 and 1929.

Classic cars: manufactured from the year 1930 to 1979

The old cars: manufactured between 1980 to 1989.

The team members are keen to organise a specific awareness programmes which aim to raise the awareness levels among different segments of the local community. Preserving even our new cars would contribute to reduce the waste (car scraps) amount in the sultanate.
