MUSCAT: The Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) recently launched the fourth edition of its charitable initiative for the release of prison inmates under the auspices of Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Legal Affairs at Muscat Grand Mall. Speaking about the initiative entitled Fak Kurba ‘relief from distress’ Dr Mohammed al Zedjali, Chairman of OLA, said: “This is a charitable project which is aimed at raising funds in accordance with the system and laws of the Sultanate.

The money is used for release of prison inmates against whom there are financial claims resulting from civil or commercial lawsuits or labour cases. “A maximum of RO 2,000 has been set for each case considering the humanitarian aspect or other priorities. We are looking forwards to receiving support from companies and businesses people,” “We have chosen this timing before the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan until its end in order to bring happiness to those miserable inmates and their families. We hope that a large number of prisoners will be released by the time Eid Al Fitr has begun.
