Muscat: The Board of Directors of Oman Information Technology and Communications Group (OITCG) held its first meeting under the chair of Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd al Said.

The Group's Board discussed the agreement on the main

objectives for which the Group was established, the mechanism of its

work, how to manage the companies under the Group, and means to

achieve integration and efficiency by seeking to unify the efforts in

order to reduce the costs and speed in the completion of works.

The OITCG Board emphasized the need for a unified strategy that is consistent and aligned with the strategy of information and communication technology (ICT), which is currently being prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and other strategies in the Sultanate, considering that the Group is an investment and executive arm for the initiatives of these strategies.

The Board also touched on the companies to be established, in addition to the existing companies (Oman Broadband Company, Telecommunication Towers Company and Satellite Communications Technology).

It also stressed the importance of opening the door for

the private sector for partnership in establishing other companies, so

that these companies will not be limited to the Group, but rather

opening the door mainly for the companies operating in this sector for

partnership and integration.

The OITCG Board meeting stressed that this company should be established by national cadres through benefiting from the competencies existing in the IT sector or by creating job opportunities for national cadres and rehabilitating them at a high level, benefiting from them in local and regional markets.

Further, the Board highlighted the importance of attracting foreign investments in the ICT sector to the local market, especially as the Sultanate has the necessary potentials for that.

It added that the Group was established to work side by side with government institutions and companies operating in this sector, such as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Information Technology Authority (ITA), Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) and other private companies. --ONA
