MUSCAT: The Oman Football Association (OFA) recently hosted a girls football event, with 450 girls from various private and international schools taking part.

The event was held at the Seeb Stadium with the aim of introducing them to basic grassroots skills. The participants were all girls aged between 6-9.

The event was opened by a marching band. Dr Jassim al Shukeili, Second Vice-President of the OFA Board of Directors, attended the event as the guest of honour. The girls were taken through various basic grassroots drills, teaching the basics of the beautiful game. A lucky few even got to play and interact with one of Oman’s most prolific strikers, Imad al Hosni.

“We want to spread the knowledge of grassroots football through events such as these. Learning the basics and interacting with girls gives those inclined the opportunity to begin their football journey by being part of such programmes” said Aisha al Jabri, who is responsible for managing women and girls football programmes for the OFA.

At the end of the event, all the participants were given certificates of participation from the OFA.
