MUSCAT: As part of its expansion plans, Oman Drydock Company (ODC) will embark on shipbuilding by 2021. The company plans to build and assemble ship hulls.

ODC, which is looking at ship maintenance and repairs, has declared its intention to purchase a floating dock to serve military and commercial ships, said Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Abri, Acting CEO of ODC.

The company has recently finalised a partnership with Babcock, the company which maintains British warships, Al Abri told Oman Arabic, the sister publication of Observer.

ODC has entered into international partnerships which will enable it to maintain offshore oil rigs as well as support its futuristic shipbuilding operations, Al Abri said.

ODC has achieved good results since its inception and its business has been on the upswing. As per the current indicators, its revenues are expected to grow by up to 20 per cent this year. The drydock has so far handled 470 vessels of various sizes, all of which have underwent maintenance operations.
