MUSCAT: A field research team from the Oman Centre for Traditional Music (OCTM) at the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science in the Diwan of Royal Court will pay a field visit to the wilayats of Shleem, Al Halaniyat Islands and Al Mazyounnah in Governorate of Dhofar from September 20 to 30 to list the traditional music styles and practices of individuals and teams, instruments used and the occasions when they are performed.

The visit comes within the framework of listing project of performers of Omani traditional music Oman implemented by the OCTM.

Musallam bin Ahmed al Kathiri, OCTM Director said that the team that will visit the Wilayat of Shleem, Al Halaniyat Islands and Al Mazyounnah seeks to cover the centres of the two wilayats.

He stressed that the listing project of the traditional music styles and performers will provide important information for researchers and students of traditional music. In addition, the lists will be used to organise the activities of the Centre, which aims to expand its activities across all Sultanate’s governorates, in addition to admit the performers to the Omani Music House in the Centre.

The Wilayat of Al Mazyouna is famous for the art of Habbut, Taghroud, Al Baraah and Al Yolah. The Wilayat of Shleem and Al Halaniyat Islands are famous for many traditional arts, such as Al Razha, Habbut, Bedouin Shalat, Al Yolah, Al Baraah and sea folklore arts.
