OCCI to discuss total impact of VAT next week

Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will discuss the objectives and the potential impact of the Value Added Tax (VAT) on the economy and development of Oman next week.


The chamber has invited all employers and private company owners for a discussion on September 25, at 4pm in Ruwi.


The meeting aims to highlight the government's approach to imposing VAT in terms of importance, the positive and negative impact of its application on Oman's economy.


The discussion will evaluate the reasons that led the government to apply the tax and the important economic and social benefits expected from its application.


It will also discuss its impact on the private sectors, exporters and importers, small and medium enterprises, and the social effects of tax on the end-consumer and those with limited income.


As well as the feasibility of applying the VAT on to all parties represented by the government, the private sector, and the final consumer.
