OCCI chair at SQU to help enhance economic research

MUSCAT: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will today sign an agreement for the establishment of OCCI Chair for Economic Studies, which is a joint venture between OCCI and Sultan Qaboos University(SQU). Said bin Saleh al Kiyoumi, OCCI Chairman, and Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, SQU Vice-Chancellor will attend the signing ceremony. The chair is designed to enhance the understanding of current economic issues in the Sultanate and contribute to strengthening the role of the private sector in achieving economic diversification and international competitiveness. It also aims at achieving SQU strategic objectives and plans of research to improve its ranking among world universities and to be a centre for economic research and development in the community, whether locally or regionally, as it will contribute directly in the economic and social development in the Sultanate.


The chair will contribute to facilitate conducting an annual research projects in various areas related to economic studies in the Sultanate and the establishment of an annual report containing details of changes in the structure and performance of the Omani economy, including the challenges and opportunities and the establishment and maintenance of a database for research and analysis of economic issues in the Sultanate and the world, in addition to the publication of scientific papers in international journals and edited and authored books, based on research projects carried out by the chair. — ONA
