CAIRO: The National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) took part in the Arab Document Day which is held under the theme ‘the Palestinian Issue, 100 Year Anniversary for Belford Promise and 50 Years Anniversary of the Occupation.

The celebration was held on the sidelines of the conference organised by the Arab Branch of the International Council for Archives and the Public Authority for the Egyptian House of Books and National Documents.

Dr Hamad bin Mohammed al Dhoyani, Chairman of NRAA said in a speech during the conference that it is important to attach the greatest interest for national documents, records and heritage as they represent the memory of the nation.

He pointed out that coordination should be maintained with the Arab League, Unesco and other regional and international organisations to protect the Palestinian cultural heritage and documents and to provide technical, scientific and research support to safeguard the Palestinian identity and memory.

Such efforts are very important in empowering the archiving and cultural organisations to establish the rights and highlight the documentary treasures. He also spoke about the role of the Sultanate in supporting the Palestinian issue.

The NRAA corner at the associated exhibition witnessed a remarkable turn out by participation as the corner included a number of documents, pictures and magazines that highlight the Omani stance towards the Palestinian issue since 1937, when such newspapers were issued from East Africa. — ONA
