MUSCAT: Now, employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) can perform their work outside of their work place, either at home, public place or even during holidays.

Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, issued a ministerial decision No 157/2017 concerning the regulations of Remote Work through the ‘Invest Easy’ portal. Remote Work aims at increasing the productivity of the staff through this decision.

Dr Al Sunaidy said the ministry took this decision after a successful remote work experience previously when a number of employees completed their work in shopping malls across governorates.

The one-stop shop is not confined to a specific place or time.

It will gradually move to provide commercial register services and other services on the Internet from any location and time.

MoCI, he said, is the first authority in the Sultanate to introduce the Remote Work system.

The decision will help employees who can’t attend work due to health/ emergency conditions and enable them to conduct transactions of investors remotely if the work does not involve meeting them.

This decision includes “some positions” that can conduct transactions via ‘Invest Easy’ system.

All administrative positions in the ministry don’t come under the system. The decision also includes four articles on the employee’s rights and duties.

Articles (1) and (2) include some definitions and terms in the decision.

The third article discusses Remote Work regulations.

The most important regulation is the employees can perform work through the Invest Easy system using means of modern communication.

Employees are also allowed to work during non-working hours and during holidays.

The Fourth Article says the employees will be subjected to supervision and guidance by officials in the ministry as well as follow-up on transactions done during the day, and the size and speed of performance.

The ministerial decision also specifies that the employees must adhere to the number of working days and the number of transactions that need to be completed on a daily basis.

Invest Easy portal provides 77 electronic services to investors and can be performed independently or through the offices of Sanad or law firms.

The number of transactions done via Invest Easy System in the first half of 2017 was 106,413. — ONA
