MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications will today open Al Batinah Expressway for traffic. It is one of the largest road projects in the history of the Sultanate. A modern strategic project, which was overseen by the ministry. The 270 km expressway begins at the end of Muscat Highway in Halban in the Governorate of Muscat and ends at Khatmat Malaha in the Wilayat of Shinas in the Governorate of North Al Batinah.

Al Batinah Expressway was implemented in accordance with the highest international standards. Its implementation included the construction of 4 traffic lanes in each direction with a width of 75.3 metres per lane with 3-metre external asphalt shoulders and 2-metre internal width, with 23 interchanges, 17 flyover bridges and 12 ground passes for vehicles.

The importance of Al Batinah Expressway is highlighted by the fact that it will provide a fast and convenient route for traffic between the governorates of Musandam, North and South Al Buraimi heading towards the Muscat of Governorate, which will contribute to reducing traffic congestion on the existing Al Batinah road. It will also provide a strategic alternative to the existing road as it is designed for various weather conditions. — ONA
