MUSACT: Following the success of its awareness campaign in five previous cities, Sayyida Basma al Said and her team of psychologists and volunteers travelled to Salalah for its final stop. Whispers of Serenity Clinic had begun the ‘Not Alone’ campaign, which aims to spread mental health awareness around the Sultanate since 2014. Along with its aim of targeting larger range of people this year, the convoy also intends on shedding light on many of Oman’s touristic attractions.

Sayyida Basma al Said, a mental health consultant and owner of Whispers of Serenity Clinic, led the panel of experts that also included, Dr Amira al Raidan, Head of Mental Health Department at the Ministry of Health, Sayyida Taghreed al Said, assistant professor at Sultan Qaboos University’s Department of Education and owner of My Book & Me; an edutainment centre for kids, as well as Sayyida Maya al Said, life coach and prominent social media influencer and blogger. The panel of experts discussed the importance of seeking professional help and clarified the common misconceptions surrounding mental health and prescribed medication.

The talk was split into two sessions, the first session addressed problems faced by adults, with a talk by volunteer Deena Shahrabani on depression and the importance of acceptance and communication, while the second session related more to children and the correct methods of discipline, with a talk by volunteer Safiya Adam on motherhood and its added responsibility.

Volunteer Mazoon al Zadjali also offered an act on the thoughts and problems faced by a depressed university student, while her sister Dania al Zadjali presented an interactive talk on the impact of social media on our lives. Volunteer Salim al Hinai spoke about the importance of volunteering in such initiatives. The session concluded with a Q&A with many passionate members of the audience sharing their concerns and queries.

We would like to also invite the public to register to attend our final event of the year on May 20th at Majan Hall in Al Bustan where we will present a video covering the whole convoy, together with some inspirational speakers.

Whispers of Serenity Clinic extended their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Khimji Ramdas for providing the convoy’s team with flights to Salalah, as

well as Muriya and Juweira Boutique Hotel for providing the convoy team with accommodation, Omani Women Association in Salalah for their warm welcome and hospitality, and finally, Dhofar University for hosting the last stop of the Convoy at their hall and for that we are thankful.
