MUSCAT, July 2 -

The Sultan Qaboos University’s (SQU) board of directors has approved the establishment of two research centres for nano technology and sustainable energy.

The objective is to support scientific research at the university.

Dr Rahma al Mahrooqi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Postgraduate Studies and Research, said the two centres will help in the university’s researches as they would be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, modern labs and a top-quality

cadre.

“The idea of building a centre for sustainable energy at the university resulted from the challenge that faces the Sultanate currently in this particular field, especially with the decrease in Oman’s crude oil and the increase in population,” said Dr Abdullah al Badi, Assistant Professor, Electronic Engineering Department, SQU.

The nano technology centre will be of strategic importance to the country because it is expected to achieve excellence in academic, industrial and economic domains as well as in the field of social responsibility.

It will work to enhance the Sultanate’s rank in nano technology around the world, according to Mohammed al Abri, Assistant in-Charge Chair, Nanotechnology,

SQU.
