Nizwa to host fifth Omani dates festival from October 25

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries on Wednesday unveiled the details of the 5th Omani Dates Festival that will be organised in the wilayat of Nizwa on October 25-31.


The Festival is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Public Authority for SMEs Development.


Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries said in a the press conference at the ministry’s HQs’ that the 5th Omani dates Festival is very important.


He noted that the Ministry does not intend to be a broker in inking deals and transactions among participants.


It rather will provide the healthy environment for participants and exhibitors.


It will also ensure that the competition is fair in quality, display and product design.


He added that the ministry has conducted a number of studies to establish a company for manufacturing, marketing, processing dates, as well as for manufacturing industries and fodder.


Saleh bin Mohammed al Abri, Director General of the Agricultural Development, made a presentation at which he pointed out that 60 SMEs, farmers, four public organisations, 6 sponsors for the festival, seven companies operating in dates packaging and 12 projects from Al Zahraa College in the design of dates production and marketing brand identity will take part in the festival.


The Festival will have 60 outlasts for SMEs, farmers, and public organization, in addition to special corners for children, sponsors, marketing identity design by Al Zahraa College and ‘Nakhlati’ school competition. — ONA
