New vehicles registration falls 38pc in August

MUSCAT: A total of 1,478,841 vehicles have been registered up to the end of August this year, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). A total of 4,425 vehicles were registered in August this year, down 38.6 per cent, compared with the same period last year, says NCSI. The figure does not include export, import and temporary inspection vehicles. Private vehicles topped the list of vehicles registered, reaching 3,041, down 45.6 per cent, followed by commercial vehicles (1,021), down 10.8 per cent. The number of rented vehicles registered in August was 272, a 14.7-per cent dip. The month of August also saw a drop in the number of taxis and motorbikes registered by 52.4 per cent and 51.2 per cent. Only three diplomatic vehicles and 10 government vehicles were registered in August, a drop of 72.7 per cent and 16.7 per cent, respectively. — ONA
