Mwasalat, along with the National Ferries Company (NFC), is launching for the first time on August 24 a new line connecting the mainland with the sea. The new line will connect Muscat, Shinas and Khasab.
Passengers will first be transported by Mwasalat buses who will then board the ferry.
The route will have four weekly ‘back and forth’ trips.
The duration of the trip doesn’t exceed the time currently taken by the ferry between Muscat and Khasab.
The new route will provide passengers with the flexibility of starting or ending the trip in other cities in the Sultanate without incurring additional costs.
Abdulrahman bin Salim al Hatami, CEO of Asyad, said the service is an “important step” and a culmination of efforts to develop logistics sector in the Sultanate and create innovative opportunities that add value to its activities. “The new route has become necessary because of the low number of users on the current Muscat-Khasab route and the high cost of support for it,” he said.
Mahdi bin Mohammed al Abdawani, CEO of NFC, said the new route is an important step for facilitating access to Musandam Governorate by linking the land and sea services of the two companies.
The route, he said, will contribute in enhancing the Sultanate’s logistics services. He said the Muscat-Khasab route will be replaced by the latest one.
The company will assess the situation and study the possibility of providing low-cost ferry on the route Muscat-Khasab in the future.
Ahmed bin Ali al Balushi, CEO of Mwasalat, said the new route is a continuation of the efforts made by the company to provide the service and facilitate it for its customers.
