Muscat: In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Modern Omani Renaissance and in commemoration of the memory of its founder late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Bin Taimour, and his notable and great accomplishments that placed the Sultanate prominently on the world map, the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) issued a new RO 50 banknote in its sixth series, which will begin circulating as legal tender this month.
CBO will also issue under its sixth series of new banknotes all other denominations currently in circulation as a legal tender during the last quarter of 2020. These denominations include:
• RO 20
• RO 10
• RO 5
• RO 1
• RO ½
• 100 Baisa
Moreover, CBO, in cooperation with local banks, is currently configuring ATM and CDM machines to be compatible with the new banknotes.
The new RO 50 banknote depicts the following features:
General features:

Issuance year: 1441 AH - 2020 G.

Security Features of the Banknote:
Front Design:
- A golden security patch window on the right side of the banknote depicting:
A. The main entrance the Central Bank of Oman building.
B. CBO name in both Arabic and English.
C. The numeral 50 in Arabic.
D. The numeral 50, LASER-engraved in English, revealed under any light source.
E. A blue-inked window revealed under any light source.
- A shiny, multicolored security patch on the left side in the form of the numeral 50, depicting moving elements of color shifting gradually from green to gold when the banknote is tilted.
- Three watermarks on the left side of the banknote, which includes a portrait of late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and the numeral 50 printed in Arabic twice; both revealed under any light source.
- An ornamental pattern in seven repetition with intaglio printing on the left and right sides; aids the blind and the visually impaired to recognize the value of the denomination upon touching the banknote.
- The printing of the coloured Khanjar (dagger) on the back of the note completes the image of the white Khanjar on the front side of the note when viewed against the light.
Back Design:
- A Shiny, multicolored, and magnetic security thread, parts of which are visible while others are intertwined within the banknote on the right side.
- Shiny ink inspired by the belt of the Omani Khanjar, depicted in yellow and green on the middle of the banknote, and the center depicts the numeral 50 printed in English.
- A reflection of the watermark image depicted on the front design of the banknote with the same characteristics.
- An identical match for the golden security patch depicted on the front design of the banknote on the left side.
- The printing of the coloured Khanjar on the back of the note completes the image of the white Khanjar on the front side of the note when viewed against the light. --ONA
