Negligence, lack of care behind most accidents

MUSCAT: There has been 894 fire accidents in the country in 2017, which is an increase of 92 incidents in the country, compared to 802 accidents in 2016, according to the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA).


The causes of vehicle accidents are due to a number of reasons, such as negligence and lack of care to maintain


the vehicle periodically and check it and to ensure sufficient amount of water in the engine cooler.


Besides that, installation of additional electronic and electrical devices that increase the pressure on the engine or power commensurate with the type of vehicle which risks the vehicle’s capacity of performing in high temperature.


“Negligence and lack of care contribute to most accidents”, says a senior official at the PACDA.


“These accidents result in human and material losses, and although this can be avoided by paying some attention and care to maintain the vehicle and replace the damaged parts with original and high quality spares, people often don’t heed to the precautions.”


“We sincerely hope that people follow the guidance issued by PACDA and apply a set of precautions to their vehicles.”


PACDA calls upon all to provide security and precautionary requirements for the vehicle, use original parts to ensure safety, regular maintenance of the vehicle and replacement of damaged parts with new and high quality, selection of approved technical workshops to repair vehicle breakdowns and not leave inflammable or explosive materials, especially during the daytime.


They have also requested to call emergency numbers 9999 or 24343666 to request assistance.
