MUSCAT: The Sultanate hosted the 27th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Planning and Development in the GCC countries at the headquarters of the Advisory Board of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Muscat on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Planning Council (SCP). The meeting discussed a number of topics related to planning and development, such as the comprehensive development strategy and the demographic reality report.

In his opening speech, Dr Al Sunaidy said, “Planning and development is a continuous process across generations. It is a product of the interaction of human resources with the available resources, the conditions and the prevailing data leading to the continuous improvement of society and raising its efficiency in the use of material and technical resources. This requires maximising the use of technical capabilities and adapting their use to further economic and social growth and upgrading productive and human capacities.”

He added, “It is proved in fact the ability of our countries to achieve the leading rates in a number of economic and social indicators, such as the international competitiveness indicators and indicators of improving the business environment. They became among the countries that have achieved positive growth rates despite the challenges they have faced over the past years. This is a clear indication of the depth of the strategic and development planning taken by our countries to confront the various economic crisis and in line with the construction and development process of the leaders of the GCC countries.”

The meeting dealt with the subject of knowledge-based economy, competitiveness indicators in international reports, indicators of the sustainable development goals of the GCC countries and continuous implementation of the general framework of the population strategy.
