9,300 animals butchered in Muscat abattoirs during Eid

As many as 9,299 sacrificial animals were slaughtered at Muscat Municipality’s slaughterhouses since Wednesday August 30 until Sunday September 3. The municipality’s abattoirs in the wilayats of Seeb and Al Amerat upped their capacity and doubled the working hours during the Eid al Adha holidays to meet the demand for slaughtering services. The number of animals slaughtered at the Seeb slaughterhouse in the first day of Eid al Adha recorded 2,116 up from 1,700 in the last year.

The total number of animals slaughtered from Wednesday August 30 to Sunday September 3 reached 6,286 of which 5,989 were sheep and goats and 297 camels and cows. Another 15 animals were destroyed after they were found unfit for human consumption. At the Al Amerat Slaughterhouse, a total of 3,013 sacrificial animals were slaughtered of which 2,923 were sheep and goats and 90 camels and cows. During the Eid holidays the municipality in cooperation with the operating company readied 180-strong staff comprising butchers, workers, technicians and veterinary doctors in both its abattoirs.
