MUSCAT: The Sultanate will launch on Sunday the National Campaign on Breast Cancer Early Detection that will continue until March 14 next year.

The National Campaign is the result of collaborative efforts by the Ministry of Health represented by Department of Woman and Child Health, along with the Oman Cancer Association (OCA) and Roch Pharmaceuticals.

The campaign that aims at educating the community on the early detection of breast cancer will take off from Dhofar and concludes its journey in Al Dhahirah Governorate.

The campaign’s mobile bus will be driven across the Sultanate’s different governorates to conduct free screening of women in the 40-69 years age group through mammogram.

The national campaign involves lectures in schools, institutes, and colleges, besides organising training workshops for health workers. The campaign’s mammogram mobile unit will examine women at the health centres and polyclinics.

Moreover, leaflets and booklets on breast cancer self-examination will be distributed among individuals. In the Sultanate, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The latest statistic released by the Ministry of Health indicates that breast cancer accounts for around 23 per cent of the total cancer cases.
