National Day celebrations continue in Al Dakhiliyah

NIZWA, Nov 26 - Omani Association for Elderly Friends of Al Dakhiliyah branch, in cooperation with the Omani Women’s Association in Nizwa, organised (A story of a homeland) celebration on the occasion of the 47th National Day on Saturday at Nizwa University.


The event was held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Mohammed bin Salim al Said, in the presence of Dr Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad al Saadi, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah.


Hamad bin Salim al Kindi, Head of the Omani Association for Elderly Friends, in his speech expressed the loyalty and love to the homeland.


Mohammed bin Moosa al Salmi explained the cultural shift he experienced and felt under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. He expressed his gratitude for the achievements and progress of the nation.


Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Saqri recited poetry expressing his love for the homeland and his pride in belonging to Oman.


It was followed by a song “Pulse of Peace”, a national song by Noor bint Abdullah al Omairi, the Omani chanter and the inventive blind girl, who touched the hearts of all the audience with her voice. The event also included a visual show about the past of Oman. A national theatrical operetta entitled “Our grandparents are our pride” acted by Al Smoud Civil Theatrical Band in Nizwa was also held.


The play represented the role of the elderly in completing the process of giving and their role in instilling values, customs and traditions to the generations.


During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Omani Association for Elderly Friends and the Karate Academy. Hamad bin Salim al Kindi, Head of the Omani Association for Elderly Friends, said: “The MoU highlights the importance of sports and physical health for the elderly. It contributes to the training of elderly in aspects related to health matters and medical examinations.”


Mohammed al Alawi, Issa al Nabhani and Ali al Riyami represented “Land of Generosity” play.


Sayyid Mohammed bin Salim al Said, the patron of the ceremony, honoured the participating and supportive institutions and the previous administration board of Omani Association for Elderly Friends.


The head of the association presented a commemorative gift to the sponsor of the ceremony.
