MUSCAT, Aug 25 - Nakhal Fort, located 100 km from Muscat, gets its name after the Wilayat of Nakhal. Nakhal literally means ‘Palm Tree’. The fort is surrounded by a green oasis consisting of several local fruits. The fort’s history dates back to the pre-Islamic era. Located at the foothills of Western Haja Mountains, it exhibits historical items such as armory as well as traditional items such as furniture and handcrafts. The area around the fort is known for its hot springs originating in the cracks of the mountains. Ain al Thawarah, located a few kilometres from the fort, is ranked one of the top tourist spots in the Wilayat of Nakhal. The warm spring water runs among the palm trees and flows year round.
