Muscat, Nov 6 - Muscat Municipality is currently experimenting with an intelligent central control system for street lighting in the capital, aimed at reducing maintenance costs and better control. A total of 40 electrical grid assemblies have been installed to monitor and retrieve information from the street light network across the city. Ziyad bin Abdul Majid al Zadjali, director of lighting department at Muscat Municipality, said, “This step will introduce a modern concept for managing street lights through a simulation system that will track all lighting networks in Muscat, monitor performance and send information. In the event of any malfunction, there is immediate notification and specialists can head directly to the site, which will reduce the time required for maintenance.” “This step will enable central monitoring of the street lighting system and make the street lighting processes quite smart. It will allow scheduling of the lighting time keeping in mind the timings of sunrise and sunset.”
