This coming on Saturday, the Royal Opera House Muscat will present The Moth Princess, a delightful interactive opera specially designed for families and children. Currently on a world tour, this charming opera continues to be showered with accolades as a highly entertaining cultural experience. The Moth Princess was inspired by the opera Turandot, Giacomo Puccini’s last great masterpiece and features many wonderful selections from his score.

As the opera opens, the Moth Princess, is imprisoned in her cocoon. Though the story is faithful to Turandot in many ways, the scene is set in a world of insects and takes place in a wood. Love, loyalty and kindness are the central themes: the Moth Princess is trapped by her inability to love and cannot see a way out. Calaf, the prince, sees her and falls in love with her, he believes the power of his love can save her. Timur, his father, urges him to be wary out of love for his son and his faithful servant, Liù, sacrifices her own interests to save him as she too loves him. Good triumphs over evil, and the Moth Princess emerges as a beautiful butterfly with a loving heart.

The Moth Princess will be performed by Teatro Sociale di Como, AsLiCo, the company that in April 2015 brought to the Royal Opera House Muscat the tremendously successful interactive operatic show, Magic Flute for Children or Defeating the Monsters. Puccini’s dramatic and distinctly atmospheric music is played by Teatro Sociale di Como’s illustrious Orchestra 1813 conducted by Alessandro Palumbo. Participating from the audience, school children will use handmade props and sing in Italian, Arabic and English.

This is an exciting show designed to engage everyone. Puccini’s score for Turandot continues to thrill and inspire audiences around the world, featuring a soaring rendition of one of the world’s greatest arias, Nessun Dorma.

The Moth Princess will undoubtedly be one of the most heart-warming shows of the season. Be sure to catch this performance at the Royal Opera House Muscat on Saturday 9th December at 4:00 pm. For more information and booking consult the ROHM website: www.rohmuscat.org.om
