Widely considered to be one of Lahore’s most iconic landmarks, the Badshahi Mosque or the ‘Emperor’s Mosque’ is a Mughal-era mosque which construction was commisioned by Emperor Aurangzeb in 1671 and was completed in 1673. It can accomodate 55,000 worshippers and is the second largest mosque in Pakistan (Faisal Mosque in Islamabad is the largest.  The design was inspired by the Jama Masjid in Delhi, India built by Aurangzeb’s father, Emperor Shah Jahan.
