MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (ONCECS) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), on Tuesday organised the national seminal on volunteerism and improving volunteering mechanisms for sustainable development in coincidence with the Omani Volunteers’ Day which falls on December 5 every year. The seminar was presided over by Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, and was attended by a number of officials and members of trade associations, Omani Women’s Association, researchers, academics and stakeholders.

The seminar began with the ministry’s speech delivered by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Under-Secretary, who noted that the seminar, organised in partnership with ONCECS, clearly indicates the importance of constant cooperation between the parties to make more achievements. He underscored the importance of focusing on the educational dimension and instilling the love of volunteering into children and successive generations. The Sultan Qaboos Award for Volunteering which is marked on December 5 each year gives a boost to the voluntary work which constitutes a major pillar of sustainable development. — ONA
