More waiting time allowed to pick/drop air travellers

Muscat: There have been some changes to the waiting time allowed to pick and drop passengers at Muscat Airport.

Oman Airports has set 10 minutes time for vehicles that drop and pick-up passengers from the arrival and departure gates of the Muscat Airport.

Vehicles exceeding their stay of ten minutes at the departure and arrivals gates will be charged a particular fee.

The new rule comes into force from February 10 and is based on the feedback from the people and other stakeholders, the company said in a statement.

“It will also help to regulate the flow of traffic at the airport,” it said.

Oman Airports said the system has been successfully implemented at Salalah Airport and it been observed that the process of dropping-off and picking-up passengers generally do not take more than 3 to 4 minutes .

Previously, vehicles were permitted to wait for only three minutes for pick-up and drop-off outside the terminals.

Vehicles are not to be left unattended at any time.

Unauthorised passenger transport by illegal taxis to Muscat International Airport will attract a fine of RO 200, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC).

As part of the efforts to regulate the sector and crack down on illegal taxis, the ministry has placed a huge signage at the airport warning of a fine on illegal taxis.

According to the ministry, Mwasalat is the licensed operator to pick up passengers from the airport.
