Muscat, Feb 5 - Russia is the new market the Sultanate is focusing on, said one of the market representatives from the country. (Pictured) Harald Zulauf, CEO of MC Group, said since the visa regime has been opened up, it is easier to visit the country, but a lot will depend on airlines and the increased frequency of flights. “There is one direct flight from Oman Air. We need more help from the airline because many Russians use Oman Air to go to India, Indonesia and other destinations.” “We would like them to come to Muscat too,” he said. Zulauf said Russians still do not know how beautiful Oman is, so the first task is to launch an awareness campaign.

“We should have tourism promotion websites in Russian languages and use social media as well as conventional media, including TV channels. We should organise trips for the media,” he said. According to Zulauf, there is a huge possibility in Russia. “But it can’t be done in six months. It will take a while. In two years, we can double the number of people who know about Oman,” he said. “Younger people are more keen on leisure, sun and sea, while others are interested in adventure, cycling and sports activities. The tourism offer here is quite diverse,” he said.
