MoH seminar highlights medical malpractices

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MoH), represented by the Under-Secretary’s Office for Health Affairs organised on Wednesday a seminar on the Medical Malpractice at the Training Center of the Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO) under the patronage of Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, MoH Under-Secretary for Health Affairs.


Around 60 participants of medical errors specialists, medical cadres, members of Higher Medical Committee (HMC) along with members of technical medical committees from throughout the Sultanate attended the seminar.


Dr Al Hosni stated that the Seminar aimed to upgrade the investigations system in the field of medical errors. He also added that the Sultanate hosted Professor Mohammed Ranavaya from Marshall University in the United States to train the HMC members and members of the medical committees in the governorates to study the complaints on medical errors in order to preserve the rights of both the complainant and the medical practitioners.


Prof Mohammed Ranavaya defined in his lecture the medical malpractices, pointed out to the medical errors and laws in the USA and the mechanism of dealing with it, as well as developing the working mechanism of the medical committees related to the medical errors. — ONA
