MoH reviews performance of hospitals

MUSCAT: Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Health (MoH) for Health Affairs, presided over a meeting on performance evaluation of the hospitals involved in the Patients Safety Friendly Hospital initiative (PSFH) at the MoH headquarters recently. The hospitals involved in this initiative are Khoula, Ibra, Sohar and Badr Al Sama.  The meeting was held in the presence of Dr Akjemal Magtymova, Representative of World Health Organization (WHO) to the Sultanate, along with a number of MoH senior officials and representatives from the four hospitals.


The meeting reviewed the WHO’s experts report, currently visiting the Sultanate for the PSFH performance evaluation. In addition, it addressed the strengths of working system at these hospitals starting from leadership, management through involving the patients and the community members during providing the health services, as well as the services provided based on a scientific evidence and ending with the establishment safety with the emphasis on the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Under-Secretary stated in his speech on the ministry’s goals to establish an integrated health system that keeps pace with the international standards.


Dr Ahmed al Mandhari, MoH Director-General of Quality Assurance Centre, stressed that the aim of the meeting was to review the exerted efforts of the ministry to establish a quality management and patient safety system at all the government and private health institutions, as well as establishing a National Accreditation System. The WHO experts then summarised their report on the hospitals that have been evaluated so far. The WHO experts were impressed with the health services in the Sultanate and the efforts of these hospitals.
