MoH conducts national training course on outbreak management

MUSCAT: The third National Training Course on Outbreak Management started on Sunday at the Holiday Inn Muscat hotel.


The three-day course is organised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) represented by the Directorate-General of Disease Surveillance and Control in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) Office in the Sultanate.


The training, which targeted 30 health workers from the Sultanate health institutions, aimed at building the national capacities on dealing with outbreaks and public health risks, in addition to acquiring the skills and prevention intervention to reduce the effect of epidemiological diseases.


The opening included a speech by the Director-General of DSC Dr Saif al Abri where he reviewed the preparatory phases for outbreak prevention and mechanism.


Dr Al Abri stressed that the participants will be trained and qualified to take the role of training the medical and assistance medical staff of their respective heath institutions on outbreak management.

The sessions of the first day highlighted three dimensions: surveillance and outbreak detection, zoonotic disease in Oman in the context with One-Health Initiative, as well as epidemiological indicators and data management. Sessions will be continued for the following two days emphasising outbreak investigation, outbreak response, in addition to infection control.
